Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya

Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya

What starts off partly as a parody of the detective genre and its characters, transforms into a rapidly progressing thriller that doesn’t aim for any higher than it can manage. This is clearly a low budget production, and it works with clever writing that aptly suits its capacity.

Navin Polishetty (of AIB fame) is a delight in spite of the lack of any peculiarity to his performance or his character. He has to execute some simple humour where we laugh at him, and he does this neatly without any fuss. The makers seem to know that they can’t be telling us to take this seriously, so the film doesn’t overdo any of its emotions. They’ve done their homework well, and it shows. Plus, there’s a message without sounding preachy and a flashback that isn’t corny – what every masala filmmaker should aim for.

Also, if the humour doesn’t work for you, the mystery of the case should compensate. It is a small little winner of a film that knows what its doing and ends up owning it.
